See ya next week!
No, I cannot let Kent’s best game this season pass without giving all his hecklers a fair old bagging, and celebrate the feats of this great man at the same time. The consumate professional what at his mercurial best against the Hawks on Sunday. His formidable forward partner Paul 'Sarge' Chambers also ran riot nailing 2 goals. Will any opposition team be able to counteract such a powerhouse attack? For seasons we have craved a powerful marking forward and capable goal kicker to hinge our premierships on, now it is time for the cup to come home. We have been in exile long enough, Kent and Sarge can bring it home.
Coupled with the renewed goal kicking prowess of Charlie 'I get more chances than an Australian batsmen against Bangledesh' Gardiner and we have ourselves a forward line. With all due respect to Ottens and Playfair who were solid contributors in the first half of the season, they'll struggle to get past both Sarge and Gardiner in the second half of the season. As for Kent, well the guy picks himself nowadays.
To all the people who ever bagged him, heckled him, laughed at him, called for him to be dropped to the VFL, swore at him, sent me hate mail saying he was crap etc etc I say to you 'BAHAHA'. For no apparent reason other than the fact you should admit the great man played a stunning game, quite possible best on ground, and will have severely dented your egos whilst inflating his at the same time.
The man is just such a natural reader of the play, I cast your mind to the time when he predicted the ball was going over his opponents head. Class. Or the time where he played on after his opponent was writhing in agony on the ground to cooly slot a goal. Not classy, but smart nonetheless.
All those who doubted Kent can use the comment section of this blog to apologise to Kent and say how good he played and how wrong they were. I am forgiving. If it's good enough for God it's good enough for me.
No irony at all in the Hawthorn banner at the weekend 'We let our actions speak for themselves' well thought through cheer squad, well thought through indeed. Which form of behaviour do you prefer, Copious consumption of Alcohol or Breaking windows at the local 7-11 at 3am in the morning because they no longer have blueberry flavour frozen cokes?
Given I now have 4 weeks of holidays and plenty of time on my hand, what better way to establish a rivalry between the Cats and Swans by heading down to Lakeside Oval with my candlestick and a few cans of Kolonel Brand spray paint to give the old grand stand that is so beloved to the Swans they have let it get into such a state of disrepair, a nice 'touch up'.
I mean it must be really important to them given they use it so much, and its clean and nice... and has good wood in it and all. It’s like when your mum comes to chuck out all your toys because you haven’t used them for years. 'No Mum, not my Ninja Turtles T-shirt!', 'Errr, Dad has been using it to wash the Car floor 3 years and besides, its 7 sizes too small since you started on your all burrito diet'.
Anyway, if i get time out of my busy schedule of meeting and greeting fans, I'll head down there and claim it for my own. I can see the headlines now, 'Heritage Stand Vandilised: Who is The Kolonel?'
This game should answer a few questions for us anyway, Are the Cats back? Just how good is Kent? What favors is Charlie Gardiner doing, and for whom to retain his spot in the senior side? That boy was piss weak at the weekend. His stats look ok on paper but at times he just gave up chasing. Some players (such as Kent) Give second and third efforts, Charlie sometimes doesn’t even give a first. Unfortunately the injuries to McCarthy, Mackie and a possible suspension to Lonergan in the VFL may well see Charlie keep his spot in the team with his partners in crime in the forward line Sarge and the Duke. Scary stuff.
Enough topical rant, lets get back onto just how good Kent was. Wow! An inspiration to all people blue and white, how the Boston Bun didn’t give him a vote when they dish them out to 5 players is beyond me. Kicking a big enough score and a lack of a focal target had us (you pessimists not me) worried during the week, and the Duke delivered.
Usually I’d engage in some friendly banter with my fellow blogger from Swansblog.com, but have you read the blog? It sucks. Here is some more irony for you, a Sydney Blog called 'It never rains but it pours', is everyone in Sydney obsessed with floods? Certainly seems that way. A few players will be donning buoyancy rings, floaties and a snorkel in a bid to combat the horrible brand of football adopted by the aptyl name Swans (water reference again)
A hot rumour doing the rounds in the Harbor City (yet another) this week, was that Jared Rivers (again) and Daniel Wells would become the teams recruiting targets over the trading period. They are also keen to sign ex-cat Trevor Poole in an administrative role.
I apologies if my humour was a little too wet for you, Lets just hope the Cats keep up the aggression, skills and commitment they showed against the Hawks, are we slowly building to something great? Who knows?
The Kolonel.
