GFC Player Handbook 2006 Part II

Todd Grima - #36

Kolonel:
Tall forward who given he is from Tasmania could two-head the Cats
attack in seasons to come. Has a good TAC goal haul, and for the eecord drives a Blue Commodore. The Addy said he impressed early in the pre-season,so chances are he will be a flop and delisted by seasons end.

Shaitan:
I don't know a lot about the Grim Reaper. However, he has performed relatively well in the pre-season hit-outs and a key position forward who can mark and kick straight would be bloody useful to us. Hopefully he can show some good form in the VFL this season and earn a promotion at season's end.

Sammy D:
My knowledge of Grima is very limited. I've seen him play a couple of practice matches & he hasn't done much, but what he has done has been classy. Looks a bit small at the moment, and it will be interesting to see him play in the VFL with more listed players in the side with him.

Tom Harley - #2

Kolonel:
Once a man for all seasons (just like the Kolonel), these days Tom
is happy to have a good hairday so his bald spots are covered. Hip
degenerative rumors last year would've had many think he'd do pre-season in a walking frame, but he has been named Vice-Captain and will hopefully be fit and firing in 2006 at centre half back.

Shaitan:
A player who continually comes under scrutiny from Geelong supporters. Yes, you heard me correctly. I've been reading some bizarre things of late. Matthew Scarlett makes him better than he is? Turn it up. He and Scarlett, TOGETHER, form the most inpenetrable defense in the competition. Sure, he can get taken to the cleaners occasionally, but his tenacity and courage cannot be denied when fit. One of, if not the best, centre half backs in the competition. I just hope he can get his body right and lead the way as a newly promoted Vice Captain.

Sammy D:
Tom Harleys continual problems with injury are definitely a worry. We no doubt are a lot better backline with him & Scarlett running things from the key posts. Impact this season my be slightly less important with the emergence of Matthew Egan.

Josh Hunt - #8

Kolonel:
One of the most popular players for 'eye candy' at the Belmont
Kmart, the Kolonel won't say a bad word about this boy for fear of getting his skull caved in. His kick ins are more accurate than the snipers at the Munich Olympics (the again, so are Kents) and he was avery solid contributor in 2005. Pun intended.

Shaitan:
Josh has more than one skill. However, I think he feels he 'only'
does the kick-outs. Consequently, he has suffered a few lapses in defense when we've needed him most. Most notably interstate and the Semi-Final. I hope he can improve and branch out in his role for the side. Another solid contributor for the team however.

Sammy D:
Josh's kicking has been a revelation down Skilled Stadium in recent seasons. Basically oppositions must be on their game at all times when Josh has the ball at his disposal because 99 times out of 100 he will hurt you. Defensively he is still not at the top of his game, but hopefully he will continue his improvement.

Sam Hunt - #38

Kolonel:
More known for smoking like a chimney and doing doughnuts in a car
at an Essendon pre-season camp than for his football ability (and rightfully so) The local Joeys boy has been giving a spot on the Cats rookie list. If he showed as much fight on the field as his brother in the schoolyard he could become a decent player.

Shaitan:
Do not kick across goal in a GFC jumper.

Sammy D:
Smells like a VFL player.

David Johnson - #28

Kolonel:
I'm a fan of Johno and think he will step into Sandos boots this season and pass with flying colors. Was going along very nicely until he got a few hammy problems, whicch almost resulted in the Kolonel joining him in hosptial after the Collingwood game after having a crack at doughboy 3000.

Shaitan:
Doughboy 3000 and his fat mother were disgusting, cheering DJ like
that. I'm a big fan of Johnno, despite a few frustrating performances in his earlier years at the club. He has well and truly shrugged off the tag 'fumbles' which many referred to him as. He has been on a special training program to keep his hamstrings in check and he looked very fit to me at the first intraclub game. I look forward to another solid season from DJ. On the Kolonel's assessment, I would expect Tim Callan to take the role of Sanderson and DJ to maintain his role as a tagger/sweeper.

Sammmy D:
When I first saw DJ play, I didn't expect to see him play again too often, but over the past season or two he has improved out of my realms of imagination. Looks another tough, solid defender and will be an ever present in the seniors if he can stay fit all year.

Steve Johnson - #20

Kolonel:
I'll keep it short because I know Shaitan will be salivating at the chance to write what he thinks about Dog Johnson. Mercurial at best, Magic at worst is all I will say.

Shaitan:
What can you say about this bloke? He has all the poise of Jason Akermanis and the work ethic of Damien Cupido. It's no secret. I love this guy. From all reports he's doing his best to get back on the track and help Geelong win a Premiership. I just hope he can do that.

Sammy D:
If only we could keep this guy on the park the entire season. The master of pulling something out of his ass and making it look extremely easy. The x-factor if you will. Has shown he can do a job in the midfield and doesn't mind throwing his body around in the centre bounces.

James Kelly - #9

Kolonel:
I hope they keep his profile pic on the club website the same, because it is a beauty and shows just how much of a seedy bastard the guy really is. In fact I also saw him in a large cream woolen sweater at the VFL says a lot about the guys arrogance also.

Shaitan:
Kel finished off the season particularly well, being one of our best
in the finals. It seems like he has well and truly recovered from his leg injury which set him back in 2004-2005. Like Bartel, he could become one of the premier midfielders in the competition this year if he works hard enough.

Sammy D:
If I have one criticism of Kels it's probably that he seems to have a tendancy to be lazy at times, especially with his footskills. Apart from that he is a tough, hungry midfielder who is dangerous in the forward line also. Unfortunately his injury in the NAB Cup final has him out for a few weeks after he has gotten over that serious leg injury.

Steven King - #1

Kolonel:
Unworthy Skipper who remians joined together by sticky tape. If he
can't lift his arm above his shoulder, then no wonder his missus went to Otto for a bit of loving. Could be traded for all I care.

Shaitan:
The Kolonel was a harsh on Kingy. He definitely has injury concerns
but his form is very indicative of the form of the team. His body looks in tremendous shape from all the training pictures and he seems to be running quite well, so let's keep our fingers crossed for a big year, injury free.

Sammy D:
We all know what Kingy is capable of, it's just a matter of keeping him on the park and hopefully he can get back to his dangerous best.

Kent Kingsley - #18

Kolonel:
Mercurial sharp shooter whose career could be hampered by the
recruiting of accurate, tough and reliable forwards, and a plan to play them. Kent is an idol to working class bloggers such as myself because he is better than so many, when there is no reason why he should be. Another 50 goals this season and the Kolonel will want his name up in lights at Skilled Stadium. The Kent Kinglsey Karpark.

Shaitan:
The Kolonel said it all.

Sammy D:
Does his job extremely well 90% of them time. Nobody is perfect eh?

Paul Koulouriotis - #14

Kolonel:
Wow, what a bastard that was to spell. You aren't cool unless you are
as cool as Koula. Mediocre midfielder who 5 years ago would've gotten a regular game, but now we are fair dinkum he probably shouldn't.

Shaitan:
He's not as bad as people make out. Occasionally, his disposal can be
poor, but he runs hard and has plenty of games where he comes off the bench and gathers 15-20 disposals. I really like him and think he has a big part to play in our side this year.

Sammy D:
I don't think Koula is pushing a spot in our 22 to be honest. He just doesn't mix it with the Kellys, Bartels, Lings etc etc. However he could be very hand this season. He has shown in the past that he can step in and do a role in a solid midfield. He's the kinda player I think would struggle in a poor side, but can look very good in a good one.

Cameron Ling - #45

Kolonel:
The Red Baron keeps on going like the engine that could. Wore white
during pre season which made him look uglier than ever, but he put some zinc on to looked tanned and that worked well. An elite player who should be skipper.

Shaitan:
Lingy was unlucky not to be nominated Captain for the 2006 season.
I prefer the red hair, hopefully he fixes it up for round 1. There's not a lot you can say about Cameron. A resilient and tenacious midfielder who could poll well in the Brownlow.

Sammy D:
Has a huge engine in the midfield & a huge heart to match. Cult figure around the club because of his looks & his hair, but his footy playing should be getting all the attention. Never gives up and is a guy getting the best out of his ability. Tension to go too short at times, but that's just me nitpicking. Loves a goal.

Tom Lonergan - #13

Kolonel:
Best known for spilling his lunch on the great test cricket ground
the GABBA against the Lions in 2005. The Kolonel likes him as he is tall and quick, but is given a stiff go by selectors so people don't think Mackie is underachieving.

Shaitan:
I shake my head at how this guy continues to stay on the list, whilst
showing very little in ability and effort. He has a lovely kicking style and maybe if he got a few more chances at AFL level he would become a better player. Will struggle this season though, in my opinion.

Sammy D:
I don't know where I stand on Doms. Apart from kicking two lovely goals against Carlton his pre-season was very quiet, but he was forced to work hard in a under-manned forward line. Would like to see him get another game or two in the 1s this year to see what he is made of after from memory doing nothing wrong in his appearances to date.

Andrew Mackie - #4

Kolonel:
See last post, needs to do something rather than get in fights in local clubs this year. That's the wrong prize Andrew...

Shaitan:
Want a shot at the title?

Sammy D:
Mackie just seems to be a bit player for us at the moment. Wonders around the flank midfield and has the uncanny ability of kicking 3 goals in a quarter, then disappearing for the rest of the match. Needs to get some consistency in his game and not go missing.

I really think that you are not giving McCarthy a fair deal. Whenever I've seen him play, he's made his presence known on the scoreboard. It just that injuries don't allow him the chances. I see a Will Slade like scenario with McCarthy.
