Sunday - 6
Twilight Sunday - 3
Overall an interesting draw. Not really a fan of Twilight games so it will be interesting how the crowds respond to those games considering they're on Sundays.
Glad to see we get a home game at the MCG, but I would have liked a couple more.
Travel wise it isn't too bad at all and we only manage to play 3 of last years top 8 twice so that's a positive also.
In other words no excuses can by made this season based on the fixture.
Oh and we have Richmond in the NAB Cup February 25th @ Skilled Stadium, 3:40pm on a Sunday?! If we win we'll face the winner of Port Adelaide/Adelaide at TIO Stadium...which after some research is in Darwin.

Who says we can't travel?
I am gutted I missed hearing the rubbish the BBC put out to commentate this game and had to go to my best mates 21st instead...yeah right.
Althought it would have been good for a laugh, from what I've read I don't know how the Geelong faithful managed it for a full four quarters...well nearly four quarters.
Overall, it was good to get a pointless win and give a few young guys a run out and hopefully the trip managed to unite the playing group a bit.
Cats beat Power in LondonGeelong has run out 21 point winners over Port Adelaide in the annual challenge match at the Oval on Saturday.
The Cats led nearly all the way in an entertaining affair, to win 13.10 (88) to Port's 10.7 (67). Geelong midfielder Jimmy Bartel was adjudged best afield.
The last quarter featured two streakers and a couple of scuffles as the Cats ran out winners.
Ryan Gamble kicked four goals for Geelong, while Josh Mahoney and Domenic Cassisi booted two for the Power.
Port Adelaide registered the games opening goal through Greg Bentley before the Cats reeled off five unanswered majors. Late goals to the Power saw the quarter time margin cut to 14 points.
The Power kicked early goals in the second term, and when Domenic Cassisi booted his second the deficit was just one point. Late goals to Matt McCarthy and Brent Prismall returned Geelong's lead back to 14 points.
Neither team could assert its authority in the third quarter as the match developed into an arm wrestle.
Bartel was leading Geelong while Pearce was winning possession in midfield for the Power.
Port outscored Geelong by a single point in the quarter, with the Cats entering the final term with a 13-point edge.
A brace of goals to gamble early in the final term saw Geelong pull away for the win.

Trade Week Day 2
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Plenty of doughnuts and coffee were consumed on day 2, but not much progress for clubs. Steve Johnson has done more running in the last 2 days than he did all year, trying to pass fitness tests at Collingwood and Essendon. Listening to Sheedy on SEN yesterday afternoon, I don’t think he was too impressed with the results. We’ll have to wait and see but expect Johnson to stay unless we get a handsome price in exchange, given the mercurial forward is contracted.
Nothing else to report from day 2, I expect the same to be said for the next few days.
Oh and Sammy D would like to point out SEN reported our chase for Bradshaw was “hotting up” about 72,812 times without any substance at all.

Trade Day 1 Summary
Not a big day of movement, and reluctance on Geelong’s part could see them lose out again in their chase of Lions Key Forward Daniel Bradshaw. The Lions are reportedly willing to part with their spearhead in exchange for James Kelly, a player who had limited impact in 2006.
This suggests one of two things from the Cats hierarchy; either they rate James Kelly extremely highly, or believe they can land one of the promising talls with their first pick of the draft.
Securing Bradshaw would you would surmise mean that we must use our first pick on a quality midfielder. Perhaps the Cats believe one of Thorp, Gumbleton or Sellar will be around and they want to keep their options open come draft day. Perhaps they just believe they can get Bradshaw for a cheaper price.
Tim Callan could become a Saint before the week is out, not sure what the Cats would see as adequate compensation seeing as they don’t rate him high enough to play in the seniors. I’m sure their rating of him will go up when it comes to getting something in return. A pick inside the top 40’s would be a good return.
No one seems keen on Kent, but then why would you when you could pick him up for nothing in the Pre-season draft. Not sure if the Cats will care too much as it may make the delisting process easier should they trade deadwood like Gardiner and McCarthy who have also been shopped around with little success.
That is it for day one, hopefully more news at the end of day two!

Open slather on the meat market
10am Monday marks the opening of the AFL’s version of a computer swap meet, only with less nerds, and more computers. Trade Week is my favourite week of the year. There is something about the wheelings dealings and the sense of new hope when a new player arrives that gets my juices flowing.
Teams coming off poor seasons talk the talk about major changes, whilst teams coming off good seasons do all they can to keep together their lists. In the meantime all clubs struggle to retain homesick players.
So where does this put Geelong in trade week 2006? Coming off a poor year with a number of underperforming players and there may well be the desire to trade away the likes of Kelly, Johnson, Tenace and even Wojcinski. All 4 were early picks in national drafts but failed to become consistent contributors in ’06.
The need for players with greater skill in the midfield is apparent (I don’t believe we need extra pace, look at our games against the dogs. A fitter team however is a must) but having picks 7 and 25 could allow for the club to bring in the required players.
Geelong’s record of trading away good players for draft picks has paid off handsomely in the past. Bizzel for pick 17 (Kelly) and Mansfield for pick 35 (Chapman) are examples of this. But after the year the club has had do they believe that a solid pre-season is a better fix than trading a few players away? Only time will tell.
Kolonels Trade Summary
Kent Kingsley – With the Bulldogs and Tigers interested, and possibly the West Coast should they fail to get Tarrant for the right price, we could possibly get something for Kent. However if offers coming through are a draft picks in the 50’s or 60’s (draft pricks received fromother clubs via trades have to be used) The club may opt to use Kent as one of the 3 required delistings.
James Kelly – Poor year but we all know how good he can be, would this be fixed by a solid pre-season? Essendon and the Hawks are keen, so a pick in the range of 18-23 is about the going rate you would expect. Is that worth trading him though? It may come down to whether Wells and co. have their eyes on certain players in the draft.
Steve Johnson - Unlikely to be traded, but if the possibility of requiring an early draft pick came about through trading him, then it is possible. A few clubs are circling, but expect him to be retained.
Kane Tenace – Our quickest midfielder a possible trade when we apparently lack pace? Hasn’t become consistent despite continually having impressive starts to seasons. Again, his departure would depend on what we would get in return.
Possible Targets
Daniel Bradshaw – 2 seasons ago, It would be a gimme that the Cats would part with pick 7 to secure Bradshaw so desperate were we to land a key forward to take us places. But with the drafting of Hawkins, continuing development of Nathe, re-emergence of Mooney as a genuine idiot/goalkicker and possibility of full pre-season from Brad Ottens, the Cats wont be so keen to part with pick 7. Unlikely to become a Cat yet again.
Chris Tarrant – A few seasons ago, the Pies were willing to part with Tarrant to get James Kelly. It wouldn’t be that far fetched to think the same could eventuate again. He wants out of Collingwood, so could be interesting to see where he goes.
Mark Johnson – I’ll end with one a little left field here. Brother David plays at the Cats and he could be the perfect foil in the backline for us as a small defender, a position we have struggled in for sometime. Sheedy has always been keen on Wojcinski, so a straight swap wouldn’t be out of the question.
Who knows what ideas Geelong has as they enter trade week. By 2pm Friday we’ll see the direction our club takes on the long road to victory.

Callan Requests Trade?
Well it's almost trade time again folks so there are many rumors circling around, but here is one I got which is from a usually reliable source.
Apparently Timmy Callan is requesting a trade after being with the club for quite a few seasons and is not impressed with the lack of opportunities coming his way.
Can't say I blame him. I think he's a very good little player with tonnes of courage, however his kicking lets him down at times but it seems pretty clear that he isn't going to get much of a look in while Bomber is still calling the shots.
So keep your eyes & ears open for a move involving Fresh during the trade period.
