As Turbocat discussed in his recent post 'Luck' plays its part in football. In fact, it is hard to dispute that Premiership teams are lucky teams. Whether it is a good run with injuries, a crucial umpiring decision going their way in the right match or just the bounce of the ball, luck can make or break a game. It was such luck that fell the Cats way on Friday night against Essendon and like any good side should do in that situation, they took advantage of it to record their 9th straight victory.

For mine there was two major turning points in this very entertaining game of football. The first was enough to make any Bombers fan heart break. With the game being played at a furious pace and the scoring swinging back & forth in the favour of both sides the second quarter was defined by the crucial injuries to Alwyn Davey & James Hird. Davey whose stats weren't high but his defensive pressure had been immense in causing errors coming out of our backline broke his arm in a collision with Kane Tenace.

Only minutes later in a unremarkable marking effort James Hird pull up short and instantly headed to the sidelines knowing his night was over with a hamstring strain. A cruel blow for a player of his stature & on the night of his 250th game. Although this did not make a major impact immediately, the two man bench Essendon were reduced to did as we run them off their legs in a dominant last quarter.

The second turning point I believe was when Adam Ramanauskas, playing his first AFL game since recovering from a 2nd cancer scare, kicked a goal. The 30,000+ Dons fans in the Telstra Dome erupted and "Rama" was surrounded instantly by 10-15 Bomber players. It was no doubt an emotional moment for anyone involved with the Essendon Football Club. However, when such emotion is exposed & let loose the downtime that follows it can be exposed by the opposition. It's amazing how many times in Soccer aka. Football that teams concede goals just after celebrating scoring one themselves. This seemed to be the case after the emotional goal as Geelong slammed on 7 goals to 1 in the final term. The 1 Essendon goal coming from a 50 metre penalty.

Joel Selwood was fantastic once again, just loving his all round game at the moment. Chapman & Ling went forward kicking 3 goals each. Gazza was electric at times like usual. Moons was on fire up forward but his kicking for goal let him down as he finished with 3.6. Meanwhile down back I thought Matty Egan did a very good job on limiting Essendon's go to guy in Scott Lucas.

So the wagon rolls on to the MCG for a massive clash with Collingwood on Saturday arvo. I don't normally subscribe to theories put forward by the Geelong Advertiser, but this week is all about one thing. Redemption.
