Geelong made it 8 straight victories with an 18 point win over the back-to-back Grand Finalist Sydney Swans. The Cats haven't lost a game since a disappointing loss to the Kangaroos in Round 5 which Cameron Mooney has since labelled "disgusting".
Despite a couple of early Sydney goals Geelong looked in control nearly all day as they booted 5 goals into the wind in the first quarter and continued to dominate the game keeping the 2005 premiers goalless in 2nd quarter.
The Swans always looked like struggling up forward missing Barry Hall due to injury and with the likes of O'Loughlin, O'Keefe & Nick Davis being well contained by a once again stout Geelong defense.
But despite good efforts in the ruck by Ottens & Blake against the more fancied pairing of Jolly & Everitt, as the game wore on Sydney continued to win the clearances & more of the ball around the ground. Partly due to an early Max Rooke hamstring injury & the loss of Jimmy Bartel with a knock to the head. This combined with a few other niggling injuries to various other Cats saw Sydney finishing the game very strongly and out running the Cats.
In fact entering time on of the last quarter a Schmidt bomb from 50 out brought the margin back to 11 points, but Geelong weren't to let another large lead slip at home as Gary Ablett & Steve Johnson both kicked telling goals to stop the Swans momentum and end any chance of them snatching the four points.
