Gary Ablett wins the BigFooty Geelong Board MVP for 2009.

This award wont get any big fanfare in the press or press comments from Gary himself. But on the BigFooty Geelong Board we have been conducting our own MVP for the last 3 years. Each week of the season Geelong fans who hang out on the BigFooty Geelong Board post their own votes on each match.

We vote after every match in a 5,4,3,2,1 format with 5 points for the best Geelong player that day. We only vote for Geelong players not opposition players.

In 2007 Gary was voted our MVP and then he then won the Carji Greeves Medal. In 2008 Joel Corey was voted our MVP and he won the Carji Greeves Medal last year. So Can we do it again and be a barometer for this years Best & Fairest at Geelong. Gary has had another terrific year and has been challenged by Joel Selwood who was runners up in the count.

Our award is a fan award. Voted on by a dedicated bunch of Geelong supporters who watch or attend every match and bleed for the club. So even though we don’t have the big prizes for it or the media hoopla, it is special because it is recognition from the outer for great performances.

So I would like to extend our congratulations to Gary Ablett jnr for being being voted the best player at Geelong by the fans in the outer.
