Trade Week Begins!
GEELONG
Not much Action expected. Although much has been made of the Salary Cap issues at Geelong, most of the major players have resigned with the club.
Potential Geelong Trade Bait: – Kane Tenace, Trent West, David Johnson, Mark Blake,
We don’t have much room to move and like previous years may see good players taken for relatively nothing in return. Unlikely to trade for other players, but would trade for better picks in the draft.
ON THE TABLE
BRENDAN FEVOLA On the block and, so far, not many bids. Will be shopped near and far, but could still end up being passed in. And won’t go to Collingwood. Salary is the fly in the ointment — if you pay the lot ($550,000 first year, then $850,000), he’ll come cheaper at the trade table. Otherwise, will likely take a first-round pick to get him.
SHAUN BURGOYNE Hawthorn made early running, deal problematic, thus Essendon and St Kilda in the mix. Port wants first-round pick and a good player.
DARREN JOLLY Possible trade to Collingwood for pick 14, but the Swans may want more. Potential domino in a Fevola deal.
LUKE BALL
Saints have offered a reasonable new deal, but Ball is leaning towards leaving.
ANDREW LOVETT Fremantle the front-runner since the Dockers have offered him the best coin. They could push him through the pre-season draft – a bad outcome for the Bombers, who are keen to involve him in other deals, such as Burgoyne.
JOSH KENNEDY Third-generation Hawk who could be headed to the Swans.
AS GOOD AS DONE
BARRY HALL Swans want a second-round pick, Dogs are playing hard ball. Seems certain to end up at Whitten Oval, either through trade or pre-season draft.
BROCK McLEAN Will be traded to Carlton for pick 11. Might be some fine print.
ANDREW RAINES Brisbane-bound, probably for a third-round pick.
IN THE MARKET
MARK SEABY Sydney in pole position, some interest from Hawthorn.
BRENT STAKER Has told the Eagles he wants out despite being contracted for another year.
JOEL MacDONALD Has flagged a return to Victoria.
RHAN HOOPER Available.
SPECULATIVE STOCKS
JOSH FRASER If Jolly becomes a Pie, Fraser will have been sent a message and must consider his position.
LEON DAVIS Likely to stay, but could make it an historic All-Australian-on-the-move quinella.
GOING SHOPPING
HAWTHORN For a ruckman — with Robert Campbell retired and Max Bailey out for the season with another knee, only the maligned Simon Taylor and Brent Renouf remain.
COLLINGWOOD For the best it can get for pick 14.
HOW IT WORKS
Club officials meet from 10am-2.45pm in corporate boxes at Docklands to discuss trades, which can be formalised at any time up to the 2pm Friday deadline.
